Responsible disposal
WEEE and Battery Recycling
Electrical and electronic products, and the batteries inside them, must not end up in your normal household bin. This page explains what WEEE and battery recycling means, what you can do with old products, and how to reach Enertechy if you have questions.
What is WEEE?
WEEE stands for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment. It covers any product that runs on mains power or batteries and has reached the end of its life, for example a phone, a television, a washing machine or a coffee machine.
These products can contain materials that are valuable and reusable, as well as substances that can harm people and the environment if they are disposed of incorrectly. Separate collection and proper recycling help to recover resources and keep harmful substances out of nature.
The crossed-out wheelie bin symbol
Electrical and electronic products, and batteries, are marked with a symbol of a crossed-out wheelie bin. It means that the item must not be thrown away with general household waste. It has to be collected separately and taken to a suitable recycling or take-back point.
Please follow this marking even if a product or battery appears to be empty, broken or no longer useful.
Where this applies in our range
Large household appliances
Front-loading washing machines, tumble dryers and fully automatic coffee machines are electrical appliances. When they reach the end of their life, they must be recycled as WEEE.
Screens and entertainment
TVs and games consoles, including accessories such as remote players, belong to the category of electronic equipment and must not be placed in household waste.
Mobile and wearable devices
Smartphones, smartwatches and headphones are small electronic devices. They often contain built-in rechargeable batteries and need separate collection.
Disposing of old electrical products
As a consumer, you play an important part in keeping electrical waste out of the general waste stream. You have several options for old equipment:
- Take it to a household waste recycling centre run by your local council.
- Use a retailer take-back option. Retailers that sell electrical equipment have duties to offer ways of returning old equipment when you buy a new product.
- Pass on working products for reuse, for example to friends, family or a charity, so that they stay in use for longer.
If you buy a new product from us and would like to know how to return an old product of the same type, please contact us using the details below before you dispose of it. We will explain the options that are available to you.
Batteries and rechargeable batteries
Used batteries and rechargeable batteries must never be thrown away with household waste. Damaged or crushed batteries can be a fire risk and may release harmful substances.
Removable batteries
Where a battery can be taken out safely, remove it and hand it in separately at a battery collection point, such as those found in many shops and at recycling centres.
Built-in batteries
If a battery is permanently built into the device, do not try to remove it yourself. Hand in the whole device for recycling instead.
Before you hand in a device
- Back up any data you want to keep.
- Delete personal data and accounts, and restore the device to its factory settings where possible. This applies especially to smartphones, smartwatches, games consoles and smart TVs.
- Remove memory cards, SIM cards and any accessories you want to keep.
- Do not hand in damaged or swollen batteries with ordinary items. Keep them separate and ask the collection point for advice.
Packaging and product returns
Recycling an old product is separate from returning a new order. If you want to withdraw from a purchase, please read our withdrawal information. Do not confuse the two: products that you no longer need after the end of their use should be recycled as described on this page.
